FIDO API: testing for reliable integration into Universal Bank

DataScale has completed a key stage in API testing, which is the foundation for the stable operation of the integration bus.

As part of a large-scale project to create a modern integration bus for Universal Bank, the DataScale team has completed one of the most important and responsible stages — practical testing of the FIDO banking system API in the customer’s test environment. This stage was critical for the entire project, as its results determine the reliability of all future integrations and minimise risks during industrial operation.

Business task: from theory to practice

Before starting to develop the integration bus, a critical task was set: to test in practice how well the FIDO API documentation corresponds to the actual behaviour of the system. The goal was to identify in advance any possible limitations and inconsistencies that could otherwise manifest themselves in production. Such surprises directly affect the launch date, project budget and, most importantly, the stability of daily banking processes.

‘Testing in a real environment is not a formality, but a necessity. It removes all assumptions and provides an objective picture. We move the work from the “as it should be” level to the “as it really is” level, which allows the customer to make decisions based on facts, not documentation,’ comments Roman Solovyov, CEO of DataScale.

What was done: comprehensive testing

The DataScale team conducted large-scale applied testing, sequentially checking 92 GET API methods. The testing covered key areas of the banking business: accounts, customers, loans, cards, deposits, currency transactions, and reference data.

The work was carried out with full validation of business meaning: the data obtained through the API was checked against the information in the FIDO user interface and other bank data sources. This approach made it possible to identify not only technical errors, but also logical discrepancies in the information provided.

Key results and benefits for the bank

At the end of the stage, Universal Bank received clear, fact-based results:

  1. A confirmed list of GET API methods ready for secure use in the planned integration bus.
  2. A detailed report with recorded limitations and inconsistencies critical for planning the next stages of integration.
  3. Complete transparency regarding the actual quality and readiness of the FIDO API, without guesswork or hidden risks.

The test results were as follows:

  • Some methods were confirmed to be fully functional and consistent with the documentation.
  • A significant number of methods revealed certain limitations or discrepancies with the description.
  • Some methods were marked as unavailable in the current test configuration.

This stage made it possible to:

  • Exclude non-functional features from integration plans at the earliest stage.
  • Avoid costly rework and downtime during active development and launch stages.
  • Focus further efforts on developing the bus using only proven and reliable APIs.
  • Create an objective basis for making decisions on the necessary refinement and development of the FIDO API itself.
